This was a very big day. We boarded a float plane and headed out to visit the two National Parks above the Arctic Circle. It was a long flight, about five hours in total. We got lucky with the weather and had a grand time. Our float plane was a DeHaviland DHC-2 Beaver. The pilot kept pretty low (500 feet) so we could look for critters, and we were rewarded with sightings of several moose and a bear.
In each of the parks we had to get our photo taken with a park sign, of which there are none. The plane was equipped with a portable sign, fortunately. So we enjoyed the scenery, walked around a little bit and took many nice photos. I think the Gates of the Arctic photo is pretty cool because of the reflections of clouds in the water. We had to wait around for a while until the sun went behind a cloud to get the shot.
