During March of every odd numbered, you have to renew your IA certificate. The FAA is very picky about this. You can't do it a day early and if you are late you have to go through recertification, which is a pain. Part of the deal is that you also have to take 8 hours of refresher training in each of the two years between recerts. I usually take an online course. In the past the FAA would put on an IA seminar during March which served the purpose of the training requirement as well as getting the recertification signed off by the FAA personnel that put on the conference. Convenient for everybody.
This year because of the covid thing there was no seminar. The FAA published a list of about five options to get the sign off. I decided to mail in the forms and documentation. I don't like going over the the FSDO (Flight Standards District Office). So today I got my stuff together and mailed it off certified mail with return receipt. I did this once before it worked just fine.
