Day 12 September 4
Andrew Jackson's Hermitage was the morning endeavor. Jackson served two terms as the seventh President (1829-1837) and returned to the Hermitage to end out his days. The building is very well preserved and is filled with authentic stuff. The Jackson family sold it to the state and then the site was adopted by the Ladies Hermitage Society. I doubt many people know much about Andrew Jackson. I sure didn't. One thing I sensed was that politics back then was about as raucous as it is now.
We had lunch at a BBQ joint which was pretty good then took a break before our afternoon visit to Corsair Distillery. This was pretty good. They are a very small operation which makes distilled spirits from grains that don't include corn. We had a great tasting afterward. I was pleasantly surprised because many small distillery products are pretty awful. These were all good.
After this we went down the block to visit Antique Archaeology, the store of American Pickers. It was interesting. There were some items on sale but there were a lot of NFS (not for sale) items so it was sort of a museum as well. There was a lot of their logo merchandise available, of course. It is all about marketing.
At this point I was well worn out and we decided to split our ways and we went home with Jan and Terry. I really didn't need a dinner so we hit Kroger, got some crackers, and went back to the hotel to feast on crackers, peanut butter and beer. Life is good.
Today's photo is of the group at Corsair Distillery.
