I was raised in the Chicago suburbs, Downers Grove, to be exact. I went to college in Boston for 8 years. Then we moved south. I have been in Houston for 39 years. My sister and niece and their families live in Burnsville, MN. This polar vortex phenomena is making things pretty cold up there. They are also having power outages. In this weather being without power is life threatening. In Houston we also have power outages, but in the middle of the summer the worst that can happen is that you sweat a lot. It is not life threatening. Yeah, we have the odd hurricane, but if you stay put on high enough ground, it is not life threatening. Our house is on high enough ground. I don't miss the cold and snow one bit.
