We decided to print up some of the family photos we took yesterday. When I downloaded them and looked, they were all out of focus. I thought I was being careful when the camera was set up. There was no evident reason for the poor quality. We were using Ginny's Canon T5i with the 18-135 EF-s lens. This was a problem that we have had in the past with this set up, but I always chalked it up to my errors.
So I started to fiddle with the camera and lens. When trying to use the manual focus, it was evident that the focus ring was not adjusting the focus. Probably something broken inside. That might be a symptom of other focus problems. The more I played with it the more I became convinced that the lens was the root of all evil.
In order to do some further testing, another good lens was needed. I have a spare EF 24-105 1:4 L Series IS lens, believe it or not. Not many people have two of them. I put that one on Ginny's camera and started messing around. Things looked better. Then I started reading up on the AF settings in the camera. After a while it became apparent that a good experiment was needed. Tomorrow morning after church we will try out the new system.
Today's photo is of my HP Envy 15 laptop. It is an excellent computer. It has a solid state internal drive and it runs very cool. Additionally, the screen color doesn't need adjusting like my old Envy 17. The '17 started to run Lightroom very slow and I finally made the swap. The '17 also ran very hot and would occasionally overheat and shut down even when I had blown all the dust out of it. The smaller screen is not a problem. It is still 1920 X 1080. The '15 is the one we take every time we are on the road.
