Day Thirty Two

So we continued down the Blue Ridge Parkway. First stop was Bass Lake where a little hike around the lake gave a nice view of the Moses H. Cone mansion up on the hill. Next was the Linn Cove Viaduct which is a big bridge the is up on pillars so that a cut didn't have to be made into the mountain. It was completed in 1983 and was the last major project before the Blue Ridge Parkway was opened to through traffic in 1987, thus connecting Shenandoah National Park with Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

Next stop was Grandfather Mountain. Here you can drive to the top and walk across a foot bridge to the peak. It was fun, but I am not a big fan of high places. We had a nice lunch then had a walk through the environmental habitats (e.g.zoo). Then we headed out for Linville Falls. There was a lot of up and down hiking to get to the observation points. The sun was poor, but we took the obligatory waterfall photos. We did find a spot where we could get both the upper falls and the lower falls in the same frame.

Today's photo is of Linville Falls.
