Day Twenty
This was a Wright Brothers day for us. We headed to Carillon Historical Park and spent the day. First off was a tour of Hawthorn Hill, the mansion that Orville built and lived in with his sister. By the time it was ready for occupancy, Wilbur had died. It was interesting because quite a few pieces of furniture were original to the Wrights. Back at Carillon we had a nice lunch at the Carillon Brewery and tried some of their beer. They brew it in 40 gallon batches using equipment from the 1800's.
Within the park is the Wright Brothers National Museum. It wasn't huge, but it was interesting. They have the 1905 Wright Flyer III on display. We went through the rest of the park and had a good time. It was mostly Dayton history. There was a very interesting display of cash registers made by the National Cash Register company. They were very ornate. One display showed the 20,143 parts that went into a single cash register. It is hard to believe all those parts could fit into the case.
Todays photo is of the camera used to document the first flight at Kill Devil Hill. If you think about it, this is a remarkable photo. Think about where aviation is today 115 years later. How cool is that?
