OK, this is getting crazy. Now you can get organic Gummy Bears. Yup, USDA certified Organic. That certainly is an attractive thing to put on the packaging. That organic certification makes those danged bears better for you. It's organic, right. They are also fat free and gluten free. That has certainly gotta be more healthy, right? WRONG! If you look at the nutritional information starting with the ingredients, the top two are organic tapioca syrup (like corn syrup) and organic cane sugar. The third ingredient is gelatin, a thickener used in Jello. All sugar and starches except for the gelatin.
The Nutritional Facts are simple, total carbs, 23 grams; sugars, 14 grams and protein 1 gram for a 30 gram portion. If you go look up the information for those doggone unhealthy regular gummy bears, you will find out it is exactly the same. What is the lesson here? I bet most people don't go beyond the Organic label and think about what is in the package. Organic has to be better. Gluten free has to be better (although the regular ones are probably gluten free as well.) Fat free has to be better although the regular ones are fat free as well. Yet, both the organic and non-organic gummy bears are nothing but sugar and carbs. Let me ask you if you think it is better to eat with gluten free plates and utensils. If you don't get it, I am sorry.
