Day Four

This was a hiking day in Capitol Reef National Park. Our morning hike was up to Hickman Bridge. It was a moderately strenuous hike. It claimed only 400 feet of vertical, but there was a lot of up then down which made it seem like a lot more. Most of the hike was in the hot sun, no shade anywhere along the trail. By the time we finished it was very hot. I was soaked in sweat. Along the way were a couple of little bridges that were neat. We stopped for some photos there as well at Hickman Bridge.

After the hike we went back to Shauna's house to cool off. That was a real good idea. We cobbled together some lunch from the supplies we had with us. Finally everybody was back to normal so we headed out for another hike about noon.

This time we hiked along the Grand Wash for about a mile then returned. There were ample shady spots as we went deeper into the canyon. Best of all, it was flat. But it was really hot because there was no breeze on the floor of the canyon. Along the way back to Shauna's house there were a couple of spots to stop for some photography.

Back at the homestead we began the cooling off process. First a cold drink of water then the start of a raid on the beer supply. Everybody got a shower and we started doing some laundry. Smelly sweaty garments need immediate attention. We sat out behind her house watching the action at her hummingbird feeders and the deer in the apple orchard foraging for apples. Next up was a trip to Torrey for dinner at the Rimrock restaurant.

Today's photo is of us at Hickman Bridge. This was a pretty large structure. Very reminiscent of the bridges at Natural Bridges National Monument.
