I have mentioned before that I have had a problem with my Smith and Wesson Model 19. It is occasionally giving light primer hits resulting in a misfire. This happens about 1-2% of the time. When you try the misfired round a second time it usually goes off.
I decided that I should open the thing up and give is a good cleaning and lubrication. When I popped the cover plate off, I discovered the guts were caked with dried greasy oil. It was very sticky. I took it apart far enough so that I could spray it with carb cleaner and give it a fresh oil job. Carb cleaner worked great to clean it out. I also made sure to use just a teeny bit of oil and not swamp it. When reassembled it operated like a well oiled machine (excuse the pun). I am anxious to get out to the range and see how it goes.
