Today was a great day. One of my favorite all time hobbies is shooting. Pistols, rifles, shotguns, black powder, you name it and I like it. This particular hobby has been in abeyance for a very long time. Yesterday things changed. I was able to rejoin the PSC Shooting Club. It is a very large club (4000 members) and there is a waiting list to join. I haven't been active since 1982. It turns out that makes me a legacy so that I can rejoin the club without the long wait. Yesterday I attended the new member orientation program and picked up my club badge. Today I headed out to the range and returned to the hobby. What a blast (pun intended). The range opens at 8:00 and I was there soon after. I decided this morning to have a go with my Smith and Wesson Model 19 (.357 magnum) and my Ruger Mark 1 (.22). To begin with I shot some paper targets. Then I decided to go over to the steel plates and blast away. The plates are lots of fun because when you hit one it falls over. It is not as easy as it seems because the challenge is to see how fast you can knock over all six of them. With careful aiming, I can get all six in six shots. When I go for some speed, the results are not so good. That is OK, however, because shooting is fun regardless of the score.
One thing I have always been careful with is cleaning the guns after a shooting session. Modern smokeless powder is non-corrosive, which is a good thing. It does, however, leave quite a bit of powder residue as well as some barrel fouling. The cleaning process doesn't take very long, but it is necessary.
The top photo today is my attempt at a selfie of sorts. I was using my G15 and holding the camera with my left hand. It was really hard to get the sights lined up in the photo. If you look real closely, you can see the front sight is way too high although it is close to centered left and right. Today's bottom photo is of the two pistols that went to the range with me today. Life is good.
