It was a leisurely day for us. We had three objectives and they were all adjacent to each other. First was the Legislative Building. This modern building is where the North Carolina Senate and House of Representatives meet. There wasn't much to see. We couldn't get into the galleries to take decent photos. Next stop was across the street at the North Carolina Museum of History. This was pretty good. There was a nice exhibition of the history of North Carolina. We enjoyed that quite a bit. There were other interesting exhibits including a phtotgraphy exhibit of the work of Hugh Morton.

Across the street is the North Carolina State Museum of Natural Science. This is one of the best museums I have ever seen. What sets it apart from the others is that not only does it have lots of hands on things to do, those things aren't just geared to children. Any adult could have a ball. We have been to other museums that are so dumbed down that even a toddler would be bored. An example is the Minnesota History Center. Perhaps the coolest thing was the Naturalist Center where you could see and handle thousands of objects, from bones to shells to stuffed critters to things preserved in jars of formaldehyde. Today's photo is of Ginny having a ball at the exhibit. There were five rows of these stations where you could handle things. All ages were having a hoot.

At the end of the day we did a little shopping then went to the hotel to catch up on things and relax. This trip is a little less intense that our normal endeavors. I like that. Ginny has done a great planning job.

Pretty cool. I don't think I've been to a museum that's hands on like that one.
