We had a real interesting start to our six week road trip. All of the electronics were working just fine. I had purchased a traffic data package for CopilotGPS, the software I use on the iPad (see yesterday's photo). The green column on the right gives out traffic information for 100 miles ahead. As we passed Lake Charles, a big red spot appeared. It told us that a problem was occurring near Baton Rouge on I-10. It also said that delay was 81 minutes and offered an alternate route around the problem. As we checked maps and stuff we decided to take a modified version of their work around and headed up I-49 in Lafayette. We kept an eye on things and figured that the alternative routing only cost us 25 minutes as opposed to 81. So the system definitely proved its worth today.
Today's photo is a screen grab of Bing traffic taken this evening. You can still see a red line at the spot we avoided. Must be road construction. I-10 is a busy road. Reducing a lane can bring about traffic disaster.
