A day to remember! After hemming and hawing for years we finally made the jump to light speed and bought some smart phones. Ginny was very reluctant to make the jump because change is not her favorite thing. Her old neanderthal flip phone has been a workhorse for her. But we have had our phones for at least four years and wear and tear was taking its toll. Mine had to be glued back together.

So the plan was to head out to the AT&T store and check out the phones. We looked at Apple and Samsung. Although the Samsung was attractive because of its much ballyhooed photo capabilities (and John Cooper would know about that) we ended up in the Apple fold. Primarily for two reasons. First, our kids use Apple products and we figured there would be some compatibility advantages. Second, and most important, Apple makes a smaller phone (the SE) which Ginny really wanted. She is accustomed to carrying her phone in her front pocket and she wanted to still be able to do that. After looking for at the AT&T store for quite a while we headed over to the Apple store for more information. So Ginny decided she wanted to have a think and we went home for a little while.

Finally, she decided she was OK with the SE and I was OK with the Apple 7 Plus so we headed back to the store and made the purchase. It took quite a while to convert our old contacts because we managed to duplicate about everyone and a lot had to be deleted before they could be transferred. The SIM card could only hold 250. Once that was done we whipped out the plastic money and headed out the door. Then it was back to the mall to get some covers and screen protectors. More plastic money changed hands. And finally it was done. We had entered the 21st century. It was relatively painless. Our new plan turned out to cost $92 for two phones, unlimited talk and text and 3 GB of data. Our old plan with talk only was about $65. That was a lot better than I thought it would be.

Today's photo is of Ginny with her new phone. She will probably have a lot of fun with it especially when the kids start sending photos. Looking forward, I must say that if I start using it as a plaything rather than a tool, I will voluntarily report for therapy. Life is good but you gotta be careful.

Smartphones are cool. My iPhone 5 is my daily camera. I love text messaging.
