The triumphant return. After seven weeks and five days in exile, we moved back into the house. That was 105 total days of the project. Although the project is "finished" we have quite a bit of work left, like wallpaper and some modifications of things that aren't just quite right. Today, three more mirrors were installed. That makes a total of six, all the bathrooms. Tomorrow our refurbished furniture will be returned and our drapes for the downstairs will be returned after cleaning. Things are starting to feel a lot more homey.

Half of my chore for today was packing our stuff from the hotel and transporting it home. That took a while. We had accumulated a lot of stuff during our tenure. I moved one van full then returned to dismantle our computing center then transport that to the house. It is always a nervous time when transporting electronics. With all that done, first step was getting all the computers up and running. My luck held and everything worked perfectly first crack out of the box. Once all was working, it was time to back up files to our 4Tb disk attached to the router. All that seemed to work well. I had made some changes to our photo database which were significant. That made for a very long backup session which I am going to leave to run over night.

We celebrated our return with a McDonalds quarter pounder with cheese for lunch. One of our favorites especially when you get them two for one. Since most of our kitchen stuff is packed away in boxes, cooking utensils and pots are not readily available. Ginny found a stainless steel saucepan which I used to make some boiled eggs. That was the first thing prepared on the new gas cook top.

We spent the rest of the day moving stuff and looking for stuff. Ginny also spent hours sealing the new slate tile floor. She gets a lot of satisfaction. The sealed floor is truly a thing to behold. Her dream of the entire first floor tiled in slate has come true and it is beautiful. The final big job was moving the big screen TV back upstairs and getting that set up. Again luck was on our side. Everything worked perfectly when first connected.

Our first supper was a spinach salad. We have a lot of salad. It is good nutrition and also pretty good when you doctor it up the way we do. Of course, no celebration is truly complete without a glass of champagne.

The next few weeks are going to be very busy. Ginny has to seal some more of the tile. That should be completed tomorrow. After that we can start emptying the storage container. Most of its contents are destined for the living room as a temporary storage area. We need to get the container empty so it can be removed before we get charged another month's rent.

Thanks for posting this series. Its great to see how a real project goes instead of those highly edited tv renovations. And congrats for keeping to your schedule, as you mentioned yesterday. Our kitchen job last spring http://www.pbase.com/sb_photos/kitchen) was estimated for about a month, but really took 2, 3 if you count the time to get a replacement door from the cabinet vendor. We ended up partly being our own contractor when our cabinet contractor had problems getting his trade guys to come in a timely manner. My son and I did demo, he did the electrical, and my wife and daughter did painting, which helped a lot.

Great fun, looking back, but at the time, not so much.

Probably, Rob. There was so much stuff
around that a good clean interior photo
was impossible.
