On our way today we took a drive through Valley of the Gods. Lots of red sandstone. Dave is very familiar with the place. We dawdled our way through stopping frequently to take pictures. We both have been working with our polarizing filters. We have had them quite a while, but only recently began experimenting with them. You can certainly get some stunning results. You have to be careful because vignetting happens. This photo today is one of Ginny's. It is called Rudolph and Santa. Some of the rock formations are out on the flats. Others like this one are near the mesa from which they were formed.
I managed to hit a rock and broke off some molding from the van. Although the road was generally good, it was a gravel surface which means lots of washboard surfaces. I whacked the car going through a depression with deep ruts. The molding was along the running board area and the bottom of it is only 6 inches above the pavement. Good for the city, lousy for the back roads of Utah.
We rumbled into Blanding for the night. This town is not exactly booming. We have a nice hotel room. For supper it was a trip to Subway. Ginny got a sandwich and I got a chopped salad. Cold beer was in the cooler and Ginny's bottle of Merlot was ready to pour. Life is good.
