Sometimes I don't read things too carefully, and worse yet what I did read I forget. Case in point is the Concorde battery in the Cessna. In the back of my mind I remembered some admonition to not charge at a rate of more than C/10. That is amp hour capacity divided by ten. Well, I spent quite a bit of time reading the Instructions for Continued Airworthiness (ICA) which is the FAA name for a maintenance manual. Sure enough the C/10 limitation was there but only if it did not pass a capacity test. So I made the assumption that it passed the capacity test and charged the thing at 14.125 volts constant potential. It worked. I figured that battery took about the 24 amp hours it was rated at. We will see when we start it.
Captain Smith made the assumption there were no icebergs in front of his ship, The Titanic. I tend not to make assumptions about things that might possibly affect my staying alive.
