We had another full day in Halifax on our own. It was foggy in the morning, but there was some sunshine after mid day. We walked up to the Citadel and spent an hour touring then joined a "free" walking tour. They way these things work is that you give the guide a nice tip at the end. It is a good deal and we have done this in other cities. The tour took about an hour and a half and it was fun. We ended up on the waterfront and decided that we would try a lobster roll at one of the places that seemed to have a long line. It wasn't very good. Chopped lobster with lots of celery is not my idea of a lobster roll.
After lunch we headed up the hill and spent the afternoon at the Citadel. It was very interesting. Parks Canada operates the place and there are lots of college students putting on the demonstrations. These guys are good. We saw close order drill, rifle firing by a squad which was very cool. There was a marching bagpipe and drum corps. I thought the coolest was this gun crew firing its Armstrong field gun. The crew drilled all afternoon and finally got to touch one off.
We headed back to the hotel to meet up with the Road Scholar group that we are joining for the first part of our trip through Nova Scotia, P.E.I. and New Brunswick.
