What a surprise! A box arrived from B&H late this afternoon. I wonder what is in it. Well, there is a new 70-300 lens for Ginny. She is going to have a lot of fun with that. Also a UV/Haze filter for that lens. I also got a third party charger for the batteries in Ginny's T5i. The one that comes with the camera has a power cord on it. That sucks. I wanted one that just plugs into the wall because it is a lot easier to carry in the camera case.
I also got a Canon 2X extender. I had been looking at this one for quite a while. I had done a lot of reading about it. It looked to me like it would be perfect for my 100-400 zoom and 5D Mk2 combination. Boy was I excited. I slapped the beggar in place and ran outside to try it out. Aw Sh@t. The autofocus did not work. That was not going to cut it with me. I went back inside and re-read all the literature and went to the Canon web site. The instructions that you can find on the web site and the ones that come in the box tell you which lenses it is compatible with. Nowhere does it talk about which camera bodies it is compatible with. So I called Canon customer support and asked them. They had the same problem. They couldn't find any compatibility information except that it is probably compatible with the 1D series. Well, that certainly did not make my day. I called B&H and they told me it was no problem to return it.
We have a boatload of Canon equipment. We like it all. We have always had good customer service from them. I am hoping this is just an aberration.
