We started out the day with a nice train ride from Anchorage to Seward on the Alaskan Railroad. This line goes from Seward to Fairbanks and is quite hustorical. It was started in 1903 and finally completed in 1923 after several bankruptcies along the way. Along the way we saw a moose fairly close by. The engineer stopped the train so that we could watch and take pictures. They wouldn't do that in New York City or even London. The weather was cloudy and cold in Anchorage, but it turned out to be sunny in Seward. Very nice.
We spent several hours at the Alaska Sealife Center which was pretty interesting. They have some resident mammals like sea lions and seals as well as quite a few birds. Of course, there were lots of fish as well. We listened to a couple ranger talks which were prety good. We bought some beer then headed to our hotel for the next couple nights. We had a very early start this morning, so an early bed time seemed pretty good to us. I did the usual photography key words and postings and Ginny worked on her travel scrap book which is really excellent. She does it every night to keep up. Not many people travel with scissors and glue sticks, but she does.
I tried to log into pbase and found that it was blocked. This is not the first time it has happened. It is annoying at the least. When this happens I still write my daily blurb into a text file. If I didn't do that I would never catch up. Tomorrow is going to be another great day! Alaska is cool and life is good. |
