We had a very nice day. We took a bus down to Whittier to get aboard a small boat for a trip onto Prince William Sound. The purpose of the boat trip was to see critters and glaciers. Successful in both respects. They also served a very nice lunch of salmon and prime rib. Although there were a couple of slightly rough passages, the catamaran boat made for smooth sailing. We got up close to Surprise Glacier and just drifted with the engine off for a while. We kept an eye on the glacier hoping for a big calving event, but only a couple dinky ones were forthcoming. We were in quite a bit of small ice chunks that had calved from the glacier, and the crew harvested some that they used to prepare drinks. Here we are today enjoying a Margarita with 200 year old ice cubes from the glacier. On the way back we stopped at a couple waterfalls with a huge Kittiwake rookery. It was fun watching the birds. By the time we got back to Anchorage, it was 8 pm and we were pretty much worn out from the day. Still a full two weeks to go in Alaska!
