We started out the day in Petersburg. This is a thriving fishing community of about 3500. There are several fish processors in town which probably helps keep the fishing industry healthy and the boats based here. This is a very Norwegian community. We had a visit to the Sons of Norway hall and some of the local children put on a dance demonstration which was very nice. They also served some pastries and coffee. We had a good time.

With a little time to burn we set off in search of the museum and visitor center. We have found that a visit to both in any town is worth the trip. We got some information about the town and also some history. The museum needs some work, but it was worth the visit. They had a bunch of fishing industry stuff on display. This weekend was the annual fishing tournament. We headed down to the dock where the weigh in was taking place. Not a lot of activity there but one fish did show up and weighed in at 42 pounds. That is a lot of salmon.

Once under way again, we headed for anchorage at Sokolov Island. We traveled through Wrangell Narrows which is really pretty and narrow (of course). You feel that you could hit the shore with a rock. Ginny snapped this cool photo at sunset while we were at anchor.
