Today is primary election day here in Houston, and maybe all of Texas. Anyway, I am glad it is over. This is the worst it has ever been in terms of annoyance. Our telephone was ringing constantly because of the political robo-calls. I would bet that it rang two dozen times yesterday. They also sent out a pot load of literature. Ginny kept it all in a pile and here it is. Over 40 millimeters of dead trees came in the mail to our house. Ginny counted them, 73. Many were the same because certain organizations made endorsements for a lot of races, and their selected few bought brochures from them listing all the races so they could send them out and say, "See, these guys think I am the one!" Now the one thing you know for sure from all this is that politicians are intrinsically crooks. Who would spend all that money for a job that hardly pays? Do you think they might make up for it somewhere else? Is Nancy Pelosi a savvy stock trader or does she benefit from insider information about pending legislation and regulation? Is Bill Clinton a sharp real estate investor or do certain benefactors set him up in land deals? The list goes on. There ought to be a term limit that says you can only serve in public office for a total of ten years, regardless of what offices you are elected to. Then you have to get a real job. |
