Ginny is sitting at the kitchen table writing a thank you card to Rob and Laura for the great time we had at the cooking class a couple nights ago. That is not, however, the subject of today's photo. In front of Ginny are two brand new external disk drives. They are Seagate drives (I have had good luck with them so far) of 1.0 and 1.5 TB. That is sh%t pot full of storage, buddy. I did a little calculation. Thirty years ago when I got my first computer I bought a box of ten 360k double sided floppy disks for $79. If I were going to store my data on those floppies, it would take 416,667 boxes and cost $32 million dollars. Times have changed! The reason I got the new drives is that my trusty 500 Gig drive was just about full with photo stuff. Another interesting thing about this adventure was that it took 13 hours to copy the 445 gigs from the old drive to the new one. It took an additional 12 hours to back that up on the new back up drive. My computer sat and copied for more than a day. Yeah, I know I should cull some of the photos. I actually do that on occasion. But, disk storage is so cheap now days that it just isn't worth a concerted effort to purge stuff. And so it goes. Life is good. Tomorrow really is Saturday.
