I have just completed going through all the photos we took on our trip down under. You guys know how this works. Take zillions of photos and go through them to find the gems. We ended up with over eight thousand exposures. I made a first pass through them (deleting a bunch which were technically crappy) and selected 1200 for a second pass. I just now finished the second pass and have 412 which make the final cut. You have probably seen some photographers out there who will post all 8000 photos. I am not one of them. Nobody wants to wade through tons of crap to find the good stuff. That is the photographer's job. What I like about my pbase friends is that they don't do that. Most of what is posted is worth posting.

One thing that makes the task easier is Lightroom. It has a very good database manager which really facilitates this kind of exercise. Its photo editing capabilities are pretty good as well. I use CS4 sometimes for major reconstructive surgery, but 99%+ of the time Lightroom is just fine. Thanks to my (compulsive) friend Dave Beedon who pointed me toward it several years ago.

Anyway, I wanted to pick a photo that represents my overall impression of the trip. There were so many things we did that were fun and interesting, it would be hard to pick just one. The one thing that I did learn is that Ginny is a heck of a good photographer. She has a good eye for composition and she has really learned how to get good performance out of the Rebel XT. Here is Ginny the photographer at Nourlangie in Kakadu National Park. She is also a hell of a lot of fun!

I am not compulsive. I am not compulsive. I am not compulsive. I am not compulsive.
But I have to get more disciplined about getting rid of the junk. Maybe after my Grand Tagging Project is finished I'll have more enthusiasm for doing that.
