I hiked on the Fort to Sea trail today. I took the Alder loop for the first time. This is a new section of trail that goes by the marsh that has been recently recovered by removing a dam. It was pretty nice. As I was standing there on an overlook of the marsh with the Lewis and Clark River (originally the Netul River) in the background, I got to thinking that about 205 years ago I might have caught a glimpse of someone from the Corps of Discovery paddling along the river or slogging through the marsh in pursuit of elk. It is almost incomphrensible to me that over the course of 205 years so much has changed. You see, the number 205 is something that I can understand. I could actually have that much money in my pocket (if I begged Ginny long enough). But how about a number like one trillion: 1,000,000,000,000? Fat chance highway. I can't even imagine that many things. Apparently, our government has no problem with it. They piss away more than that amount of money every year. The reason is that its not their money, so what do they care? They take it from me and give it to others. That sucks. Oops, I forgot that this started out as something about lewis and Clark. My mind wanders quite a bit sometimes.
