The way students study these days has changed greatly from when I was in high school. I like to show them how we figured out trig functions from tables when today they just poke a few numbers into their calculators. Another thing that has changed is the use of the computer for homework. At first I was not very enthusiastic about it. My mind is changing, however. I have several students who do their homework online. It works quite well. You enter your answer and it tells you if it is correct. I think you get a couple tries with diminishing score. Anyway, when you have finished with a problem (or the problem has finished you) you can immediately get a worked out answer which is very helpful. A good student will thrive with this kind of system. A devious student will figure ways around the system and get good grades while learning very little. This latter fellow will get what he deserves in the long run.
