1993 - SAREX Contact with the Shuttle Discovery on Easter Sunday

On Easter morning a bunch of students gathered at Armand Bayou Elementary school to talk with the Space Shuttle Discovery (STS-56) using amateur radio. The sponsors from the Clear Lake Amateur Radio Club were Gary Shane WB5WOW, Bob Biekert KA5GLX and Me KB5YBX,KJ5ND, AB5OX. Aboard the Shuttle was my friend Ken Cameron KB5AWP. We beamed our signal to the Johnson Space Center station W5RRR and they used their tracking antenna to send the signal up using amateur radio frequencies. My son Robert KC5KIL was one of the lucky students who got to talk. It was very cool.
