Unfortunately, the aircraft was being restored, and it wasn't flyable.

Very sad.
I know this is hindsight at its best, but would it have been worth flying it to a place where the hurricane was not expected ?.

The aircraft was so large that there wasn't a hangar at LaPorte to house it.

A terrible shame, I would presume there was no spare space in the hangers to keep this plane safe.
