This is some frozen gumbo heating up in the microwave. I understand that you might find this topic to be rather mundane. The thing you have to realize is that around this house, the mundane is often pretty interesting, at least to me.

Now this particular microwave load of gumbo has a story, of course. Any time I interact with Ginny, there is a high probability of being a story. I wandered down to the kitchen and noticed the bowl with a solid brick of frozen gumbo in the microwave. I had the audacity to open it up and look inside. I noticed that the device was not running, so I thought I would turn it on. Of course that requires permission from Ginny. So I went upstairs and told her the thing had shut off and I would restart it. Of course, that was not an acceptable idea because she had no way to certify that I would carry out that operation successfully. So Gnny went down stairs and set the timer to 8 minutes and let it fly. I was allowed to observe this operation from a safe distance. During all this I was getting hungry for some gumbo.

After eight minutes the device shut off, and I had the audacity to reset the timer and activate the device. I went over to Ginny and rather sheepishly informed her that I had been so ambitious as to restart the microwave without proper supervision, but that I was pretty sure the damn thing wouldn't explode or something like that. Ginny made another trip out to the kitchen and after careful inspection, concluded that I had not harmed the microwave while I was busy operating way above my pay grade by turning it on.

I am happy to report that the gumbo eventually reached sufficient temperature to be edible.

About gumbo here at chez Cross. A few years ago at Thanksgiving we were doing our customary boning of the leftover turkey. Ginny had the great idea of making gumbo rather than the customary freezing of tons turkey which never got eaten and spent years developing a most severe freezer burn. We have always had a 25 pound turkey which meant lots of leftovers. I have never understood why 5 people need a 25 pound turkey, but then again the decision of which turkey to buy is above my pay grade as well. So Ginny makes gumbo, and I will tell you that it is certainly the best in the universe. The result is that the gumbo actually gets consumed at a rate such that there is none left in the freezer the following Thanksgiving. That is a good thing.

Carl-it is quite old, but it still works fine. We keep stuff until it goes bonkers. Dave-Thanks very much for the offer. I am afraid that no recommendation will ever increase my weekly allowance beyond 20 dollars. John-the female of the house just thinks she is in command. I KNOW she is in command.

Your audacity indicates a boldness that verges on the astounding. Does your wife not realize that you regularly perform sophisticated scientific tasks in the noble effort to ward off an invasion of Earth by otherworldly beings? If you like, I can write a letter of reference for you---it might improve your status at Chez Cross and result in a higher pay grade (void where prohibited).

Turning on a microwave in your wifes kitchen without permission.
In WW1 military equivalence you would be shot.
In WW2 military equivalence you would get a medal.
In my house you would start WW3.
