We visited the Wisconsin State Capitol in Madison on May 25, 2016. This was number 34 in our quest to see them all. This building is interesting because it is in the shape of an X and has 90 degree rotational symmetry. Check out this aerial view. This is the fifth capitol building for Wisconsin and it was completed in 1917. Wisconsin entered the Union as the 30th state on May 29, 1848. The state mascot is the Badger just like the University. The statue atop the dome is "Wisconsin" done by Daniel Chester French of Lincoln Memorial fame. The legislature was not in session so it was very quiet. |
