Sauer-Beckman Farm at LBJ State Park and Historic Site

The Sauer-Beckmann Farmstead – A Living History Farm

At the Sauer-Beckmann farm, costumed interpreters give demonstrations and carry out the day-to-day activities of a turn-of-the-century Texas-German farm family. Some chores are seasonal, such as canning and butchering. Farm animals, however, must be cared for on a daily basis, including activities like feeding, milking, gathering eggs and slopping the hogs. Also, the house is cleaned, meals are cooked, butter is churned and cheese is made. Visitors may see the "family" scrubbing the floors with homemade lye soap, or plowing the garden with a team of horses. Visiting the farm one can learn how rural life was lived a hundred years ago.

The Sauer-Beckmann Living History Farm is part of the Lyndon B. Johnson State Park and Historical Site. The park is located in Stonewall, on Highway 290, between Johnson City and Fredericksburg. The park is directly across the Pedernales River from the LBJ National Historic Site.

Visitors to this day-use park can enjoy historical study, picnicking, nature study, fishing, and swimming in the park pool. The abundant wildlife of the Hill Country is highlighted by enclosures containing buffalo, longhorn, and white-tailed deer.
