John, congratulations on doing such a nice job of documenting this vanishing part of our culture. Great project work! Today, the advertising messages seem to have moved from walls and billboards to electronic media, although print media seem to have held its own. I was looking at a book that compared places in Phoenix: how they looked in the 20s and 30s and how they look today. The extent of advertising on walls back then was very noticable. But that book was more about buildings and locations and the advertising was incidental. I hope you have somewhere, not necessarily on the web, included the localities of these images—because it is such a nice, and unique, historical document and record.

Wonderful Photos you have in this gallery. My Dad and I, when I was 8 years old would drive around the southeastern states and paint these large signs and graphics on brick buildings. I acquired an appreciation for this bit of nostalgia. Thank you for bringing back fond memories.
