Fanthorp Inn, Texas State Historical Site

In 1834 English immigrant Henry Fanthorp built a modest log house on his property, along an intersecting road that was an east-west route for stagecoaches. Before long weary travelers begin arriving on his doorstep.

Recognizing the advantage of his location, Fanthorp enlarged his residence, established an inn and began offering services and goods to his guests. Many notable Americans stayed at the inn during these times, including Anson Jones, Ulysses S. Grant, Zachary Taylor, Jefferson Davis and Robert E. Lee.

Visitors are welcome to tour the inn and ride a beautiful, red and yellow, replica 1850 stagecoach (on certain days)for a true taste of what life was like in the early days of Texas.

The inn is located approximately 30 miles southeast of Bryan/College Station, in Anderson, Texas. Fanthorp Inn is open for public tours Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The park is open Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday for group tours (by reservation) and school events. Stagecoach Days, on the second Saturday of each month, includes rides on the stagecoach from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. For more information, please visit: http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/spdest/findadest/parks/fanthorp_inn/
