Examples of potentially harmful erosion

A result of the wildfire burning underbrush and groundcover, the ground was left unstable and subject to erosion, which needs to be controlled. An example of why it needs to be controlled can be seen in the photo, “Erosion #8,” below. Note how near the erosion is to Park Road 1A, which can be seen in the background. Every time it rains, the creek floods, and the erosion gets worse. Without erosion control, it seems to me that the road could be in danger of being taken out.

With the State budget cutbacks, plus shortfalls due to reduced visitation in the State Parks because of record high heat, extreme drought, and fires, the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department needs help to control this erosion, and restore and maintain our great parks.

If you would like to help, it can be as easy and fun as simply visiting a park, or to learn how you can help the Texas State Parks, please visit: http://bit.ly/sVdilb
