Dangerfield State Park

Not much changes at Dangerfield State Park, except the seasons. Yet, it’s exactly the change each season brings that appeal to many returning visitors.

In the spring, the park blossoms as dogwoods, redbuds, and wildflowers make their annual appearance.
In the fall, sweet gums, oaks, and maples dot the park with patches of red, gold, and orange, an unusual sight in much of Texas – especially when those colors are reflected in the parks 80-acre lake.

Built surrounding the lake, the park offers boat rentals; recently renovated air-conditioned cabins and campsites shaded by towering loblolly pines; prime fishing; an excellent swimming area for all ages; and picturesque hiking trails. A park store is available to help fill a picnic basket.

Dangerfield State Park was built in the mid 1930’s by the Civilian Conservation Corps, and includes several buildings with interesting architectural elements. The park is located southwest of Texarkana, east of Dangerfield on State Highway 49 for two miles to the Park Road 17 entrance.
