Monochrome: From White to Black (with 2 exceptions)

Ansel Adams suggested for an expressive b&w image they should have at least a little 100% white and 100% black in the image. I agree with him, and you'll notice I try to accomplish that in most of my b&w images.

Black & White: It gets right down to business.

Bill, Thank you for your nice comments. As an "old" B&W photographer, I'm glad there are some of us who still enjoy b&w images. Actually, I think it's more difficult to produce an expressive b&w image than it is to produce one in color. As Gary said below, "It gets right down to business!"

Yes, there are a lot of "details." But there are also a couple of handfuls of overall type views. I think this the result of my personal mantra when photographing, which is: I ask myself what I'm taking a picture of and why I'm taking it. If it passes that test, I want to take a picture of the subject that interest me, and not everything else. This usually means tight composing and cropping. That's just me and the way I work. Some have called it "your style."
