Birds of the Varanger Peninsula, Norway

Finnmark is the northeastern-most county in Finland, and the Varanger Peninsula is the eastern part of the county. It borders Varanger Fjord and the Barents Sea, and lies above 70 degrees North.

I strongly recommend that North American birders and photographers consider Varanger for easily accessible tundra (paved roads), astonishingly beautiful, sparsely populated scenery, and very cooperative birds. Tormod Amundsen and Elin Taranger are birders and pro nature architects based in Vardø -- their web site is indispensable: www.biotope.no
