Hi Phil - I sent a longish reply to "Calis"?? which doesn't seem to show anywhere here, I expect (hope) it's gone to your normal email account. If anyone else is interested, the answer is no, I didn't forget (the exinfo lies, there's a two hour difference between Turkey and UK, this shot was taken near noon local time. Nikon D80 reviews uniformly gave it 5 star ratings for virtually non-existent noise up to ISO 800, why shoot slower unless you want a creative longer exposure. There won't be many (?any) shots lower than that on this particular Turkey shoot. Also note that even in such bright sunlight I only got 1/500th at F11, that's down to the linear polariser I had on.

Things I DID forget: take the polariser off when shooting evening/low light; don't always rely on auto white balance or you might lose some nice pink evening shots.

Another techy thing - the polariser in question is linear not circular, to my eye gives a much stronger polarised effect than any circular I've used, and has absolutely NO detrimental effect on AF performance (unless it improves it, hadn't thought of that until now). Is that a dead techy subject these days - it used to be mantra that we all had to buy circular polarisers as our trusted linears wouldn't work with the early generations of AF SLRs.

P.S. yes, does look like the same flower, not surprising as the part of Turkey we were in is only a stone's throw from the Med (is that where Menorca is??)

And a question: Why iso 800, or did you do what I have done so often, and forget to reset it in the morning after taking pics the previous evening :-(

haha. Check this pic in my Menorcan set - Dad kindly identified this plant.

I'm fairly sure it's the same type
