Taken in the Arboretum last month
A bit of an odd one this time. It appears to be a male Red-bellied Woodpecker feeding a female Hairy Woodpecker.
I had been photographing the Red-bellied moving around in a nearby tree when he flew up to a hole in a dead tree. He put his head in the hole and I could see some movement but couldn't tell what was happening. He returned to foraging in the trees, then he returned to the hole for the second time. This time, the hairy stuck her head out, this is when the photo was taken. The cycle was repeated for a third time.
