From the note in the album "Playing ping pong at the garden party"
Ping pong originated with British soldiers in India in the 1860s and was brought back to Britain, becoming popular with the upper classes.
In spite of being in use for many years, games manufacturer J. Jaques & Son Ltd managed to trademark the name, forcing competitors to use the name Table Tennis. The rights were sold to Parker Brothers in the US, who continued to enforce the trademark.
