MV Theron, launched in 1949 as a seal hunter she spent most of her career chartered by the Canadian Government as an Arctic research vessel.
In 1955 when this photo was taken she was chartered to transport the personnel and equipment for the Fuchs/Hillary trans Antarctic expedition from the UK to Shackleton Base in Antarctica
