Commissioned on 9 Aug 1943 as USS Carnegie (CVE-38) she was transferred to the Royal Navy three days later and renamed HMS Empress
She operated in the Pacific and Indian Oceans before being returned to the US Navy in Jan 1946, she was scrapped in late 1946
