Jetée-Promenade

Scanned from a photo postcard from the 1920's
A view of the Jetée-Promenade in Nice, France
Originally built in 1882 the buildings were severely damaged by fire shortly after it's official opening in 1883, after several delays it was rebuilt and and opened in 1891.
It was very successful until the start of WW1 when it was used as a convalescence centre for wounded French troops, in 1919 it reverted to it's normal use until 1942 when the Germans occupied the Free French zone.
It was demolished by the Germans in 1944 for the metal salvage.
