Crowning the Bard

Scanned from a glass negative from 1930
The photo shows William Jones after being crowned the 1930 Bard by Pedrog, the Archdruid (Archdderwydd in Welsh) of Wales at the National Eisteddfod that was held at Llanelly.
The National Eisteddfod of Wales is a poetry and music festival that has been held annually since 1861 though there were other national level Eisteddfod dating back to 1789 with local events dating much earlier
The Eisteddfod is based on bardic competition held by the Lord Rhys in Cardigan Castle in 1176.
