Gunnery Training

Scanned from a photo postcard circa 1905
Gunnery training on board the training ship HMS Calliope.
The Calliope was launched in 1884 and served mainly in the China and Australian stations, after being laid up in 1890 she became a training ship in 1897 and served in that roll till 1905.
In 1907 she became a drill ship for the RNVR in Newcastle, her name was changed to the Helicon in 1915 and reverted back to Calliope in the 1930's, she was sold for scrap in 1953.
