An engraving of Paisley Abbey by S Sparrow (active 1773 - 1795) dating from 1791
when I was a wee lad the Abbey was less than a five minute walk from my home, originally built in 1163, partially destroyed by Edward 1 of England in 1307 but was rebuilt soon after .
After the reformation it became Church of Scotland but suffered a steady decay over the centuries until it was rebuilt and expanded during the period of 1858 till 1923.
