Jervis Bay

The 1937 breakfast menu from the SS Jervis Bay, a ship with quite the history.
Launched in 1922 she plied the route between the UK and Australia carrying a mix of passengers and freight until 1939 when she was requisitioned by the Royal Navy and renamed the HMS Jervis Bay.
The navy outfitted her with seven 1898 vintage 6" guns and used her as a convoy escort on the Atlantic route.
In 1940 she was the sole escort of convoy HX-84 when it was attacked by the German Battleship Admiral Scheer, thought totally out gunned and out ranged the Jervis Bay attacked the Admiral Scheer and continues the attack until she was sunk. This bought enough time for the convoy to scatter saving many ships.
There were 68 survivors out of the crew of 254, Captain Fegen was awarded a posthumous VC.
