A hydrofoil sailing boat.

Solent off Stokes Bay

This was a huge distance away in the Solent. Had to enlarge it in Photoshop.
The actual boat is almost like a plank of wood with a bit of shape.
The sailor sits on one of two wings that stick out of the side.
As the boat starts moving it lifts up out of the water on two hydrofoils.
For its size it moves at an incredible speed. It was miles away but it seemed to be traveling at about 40 mph.

other sizes: small medium large auto

Hydrofoils (underwater wings) are cool devices but can be damaged when running into submerged debris. My first job at Boeing was working as a schedule planner for Boeing Marine Systems:http://www.boeing.com/history/boeing/hydro.html .
