'Oregon' Dark-eyed Junco in Ohio

Western form of Dark-eyed Junco coming to feeders in Elyria, OH (Lorain Co.). Photos taken through double-panes of glass. Mostly found west of the Rockies, this form is a rare but annual vagrant to the eastern U.S. Typical eastern 'Slate-colored' form male pictured at the end. The 'Oregon' individual has a noticeably blacker, charcoal head with a clear line of demarcation from the contrastingly colored brown back and orange flanks. The white outer tail flashes also appear slightly less pronounced when in flight (not pictured here). Female 'Slate-colored' Juncos can be quite brown on their back to orangish on their flanks, but shouldn't show such a dark head and clear lines of contrast with the flanks and back. Present from at least 10Jan-17Jan11.
